LocationKennett, Missouri, U.S.

Kennett Sound Studios (KSS) was a music recording studio located in Kennett, Missouri from 1971 to 1997.[1] It was known for recording artists from the Missouri Bootheel, including the young Sheryl Crow, and was founded and operated by recording engineer, producer, and Missouri musician Joe Eugene Keene. [2]

The studio was an evolution of Joe Keene’s earlier sound ventures, which began with a standalone studio he launched in 1968. KSS quickly became a regional hub for artists seeking a more affordable and approachable alternative to larger recording centers like Memphis. Kennett Sound Studios closed in 1997 when the building was sold for other uses, but its legacy endures through a historical marker at the original site. Over the course its 26 year span of operation, KSS saw over 350 artist recorded. [3]
