Kanhopatra is a 1937 Indianperiod Marathi dramafilm directed by Bhalji Pendharkar and starring Leela Chandragiri as the eponymous character. The film tells the story of a 15th-century saint singer and poet.[1][2]

Plot

[edit]

It is the story of a courtesan and prostitute Kahnhopatra who rebels against tradition. She goes through a variety of encounters with men but fights to retain her dignity. The original story talks of how she surrendered to Hindu God Vithoba, rather than become a concubine of the King of Bidar.[3]
