Joy Agene is a Senior Environmental Specialist[1] in the Environment and Blue Economy Global Practice and Task Team Leader for Several large programs in the Nigerian Portfolio.[2][3] She supports lending operations in Nigeria[4] , India, Malawi, Kenya and served as coordinator for China trust Fund. The Trust Fund facilitated South South Knowledge Exchange between China, India and Nigeria on watershed management, climate-smart agriculture, managing of surface water run-off from roads, and application of geospatial technologies. in this role, she coordinated the first international geospatial knowledge conference in Nigeria and coordinated the signing of a bilateral agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Government of India on geospatial technology, in addition, she worked with FAO in Italy and also served as technical adviser for global forest resources and assessment in West Africa.[5]

Her private work sector life ventures into GIS specialization for international oil and gas companies, environmentally related operations with private and government agencies in Nigeria[6] and part-time lecturing.

Education

Obtained Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Jos, Master of Science in Environmental Management from Coventry University, United Kingdom, and PhD in Environmental Geology from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. She also attended Harvard Kennedy School where she completed the Leadership, Organization and Action Program. She has authored books on geospatial technology and environmental science with numerous publications in reputable academic journals.[7]
