This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of music-related topics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). - Comment: the subject currently does not meets the WP:GNG, WP:NBLP, WP:SINGER, and WP:BANDMEMBER criteria showing lack of significant coverage for individual notability from secondary reliable sources that is independent of the subject apart from passing mentions from NCT's related reportings. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 07:17, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Most of the cited sources are announcements of events or releases, which are WP:ROUTINE coverage and not counted as significant coverage. Consider change as many of them to reporting/review of the events/releases after the fact to have a stronger case for passing notability guideline. Tutwakhamoe (talk) 15:56, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

John Jun Suh (born February 9, 1995), known professionally as Johnny (Korean: 쟈니), is an American singer based in South Korea. He is part of the South Korean boy band NCT, and of its sub-units NCT 127 and NCT U..[1] He debuted with NCT 127 in 2017 with the extended play (EP) Limitless.[2]
Early life
[edit]John Suh was born on February 9, 1995, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 2013[3]. At Glenbrook North High School, he was a middle blocker for the volleyball team.[4]
Career
[edit]2008–2016: Pre-debut
[edit]In September 2008, he was cast by SM Entertainment through the SM Global Audition event held in Chicago and became a trainee.[5][6] Johnny would travel back and forth between Chicago and Seoul, attending the trainee program during the summer, calling it "like a summer camp".[7]
On December 23, 2013, Johnny was introduced as a member of SM Rookies, a pre-debut training team under SM Entertainment.[8] In August 2014, he appeared in Exo's television show Exo 90:2014, where they performed songs from the 1990s.[9].
From August 2015 until February 2016, he appeared in 15 episodes of the 'SMROOKIES SHOW'.[10] In August 2016, he appeared in the music video for singer J-Min's song Ready for Your Love (J-Min song).[11] From October to November 2016, Johnny hosted the variety show My SMT alongside labelmates Leeteuk and Doyoung.[12] On October 1, 2016, he participated in the music festival Spectrum Dance Music Festival as a DJ, alongside other SM Entertainment artists.[13] On October 27, 2016, he released "Nightmare" alongside Yoon Do-hyun, Reddy, G2 and Inlayer as a part of the digital music project SM Station.[14]
2017–2022: Debut with NCT
[edit]On December 27, 2016, SM Entertainment announced that Johnny would debut in NCT's second sub-unit, NCT 127.[15] He officially debuted with NCT 127's second EP Limitless on January 6, 2017, with Doyoung.[16]
In March 2017, Johnny joined the beauty show Lipstick Prince during season two as a regular cast member.[17] Starting from March 20, Johnny and fellow NCT member Jaehyun hosted the radio show NCT Night Night.[18] The radio show ran daily from March 3, 2017, until January 1, 2029, from 11pm to 12pm. The program ended on January 27, 2019, due to both members' busy schedules.[19]
In March 2018, Johnny got appointed as ambassador alongside group member Doyoung for the MClean project, an organization aiming to create a safe internet without fake news and with respectful communication.[20] In July, he participated in the reality travel program "Hot & Young Seoul Travel" alongside the other foreign members of NCT, Mark, Yuta, Winwin, Kun and now former member[21][unreliable source?] Lucas. The program aimed to introduce popular destinations in Seoul through the lens of the multinational members.[22]
On July 5, 2020, Johnny performed a live DJ set streamed on YouTube called Sunny Side Up, group member Mark appeared as a guest star.[23]
2022–present: Solo endeavors, DJ projects
[edit]On May 2, 2022, Johnny participated in the Met Gala held by Vogue at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.[24] He was the only Korean idol to attend the 2022 Met Gala and was the most mentioned person on social media at the time with roughly 240,000 mentions according to American-based market research firm Netbase.[25] For the event, Vietnamese-American designer Peter Do designed "a ultra-long satin black tailcoat with silver detailing and a matching suit underneath".[26]
On February 14, 2023, Johnny attended the Thom Browne Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear show at New York Fashion Week, dressed in a suit by the same designer.[27]
On April 16, 2023, Johnny hosted the debut showcase of the newest NCT subunit, NCT DoJaeJung.[28]
On May 6, 2023, he attended the Gold Gala held by the Gold House in the United States as an award presenter, and jointly present it with Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.[29] For the event, Johnny collaborated again with American Fashion Designer Thom Browne.[30]
Johnny was slated to perform at the KVIBES Summer Fantasy party on June 17, 2023, in Indonesia.[31] However, on June 12, 2023, SM Entertainment announced that Johnny accidentally bumped into the door of the studio during filming, resulting in a fractured right shoulder and collarbone injury. All activities were suspended to focus on treatment until recovery.[32] The injury resulted in the cancellation of Johnny's appearance at the KVIBES Summer Fantasy party.[33]
Artistry
[edit]Musical style & influences
[edit]Johnny cites rock music being one of his favorite genres with Yesterday by The Beatles being his first song that he actively started practicing after joining SM Entertainment.[34] He has named Usher as an inspiration to become a singer.[3]
Most notably, Johnny has curated a career as a DJ since his first participation at the Spectrum Dance Music Festival in 2016. Besides the live streamed Sunny Side Up set and the cancelled KVIBES Summer Fantasy appearance, he was part of the lineup of ScreaM Records' new season of SHOWME, a DJ show created by SM Entertainment involving various DJ artist.
