- Comment: Before resubmitting, please refer to the content guideline pages linked above to assess what is and is not an independent and reliable source. Interviews are generally reliable, but they are not independent of the subject and do not verify notability. Waddles 🗩 🖉 21:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

John Moulton was born on December 8, 1955, in Pontiac, Michigan, and grew up in Lake Forest, Illinois. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business, majoring in Finance.[1]. During his time at university, Moulton found success outside of academics by working as a ticket scalper and playing poker[2]. Reflecting on these experiences, he later stated that he “learnt how to read markets and how to read people,” an ability he believed would serve him well in the financial markets of Chicago[3].
After graduating, Moulton moved to Chicago in 1977 and began his career in the financial markets as a runner at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), earning $87 per week. His early work at the CBOT provided valuable experience and insight into the trading world, and in January 1979, Moulton made a pivotal move by using $10,000 to purchase a seat on the Mid-America Commodity Exchange (Mid-Am) and another $2,000 to open a trading account[4]
By the mid-1980s, Moulton had become an established figure in the Chicago financial markets featuring in the ABC Documentary "Bulls & Bears"[5]. In 1987, he moved to Sydney, Australia, where he expanded his trading career at the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), which later merged with the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)[6]. Moulton grew into one of the largest and most respected traders at the SFE, earning recognition as a trading pioneer in the industry.
In the late 1990s, Moulton transitioned to independent trading, continuing to build his personal trading portfolio and expanding his influence within the financial markets. He has remained an active trader to this day, adapting to new financial landscapes and maintaining his reputation as a seasoned market professional.
John Moulton currently divides his time between Noosa and Port Douglas in Queensland, Australia. He is married to his wife, Louise, and the couple has seven children. Moulton continues to trade independently and enjoys a lifelong passion for the markets.
John Moulton is regarded as a pioneering figure in the trading world, known for his early use of market intuition and his success in international financial exchanges. His career has spanned decades, and he remains an influential figure in the world of independent trading.
