Publication history

[edit]

Green became known for his YouTube channel Vlogbrothers and his young adult novels such as The Fault in Our Stars. He and his brother, Hank, started the Project for Awesome charity event in 2007, which supports charities including Partners In Health. Following his last novel, Turtles All the Way Down, Green described himself as "retired" from young adult fiction and published a book of essays, The Anthropocene Reviewed, in 2021.[1]

Green became interested in tuberculosis on a visit to Sierra Leone with Partners In Health in 2019, where he became aware that it was not "a problem of the past" but an ongoing global issue despite being curable. He spent several years learning about the disease, speaking about it before the United Nations in 2023. That year, he also rallied his YouTube audience to petition Johnson & Johnson and Cepheid to ease access to the tuberculosis treatment bedaquiline and rapid diagnostic testing for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, which both companies did respectively.[1]

Green's next nonfiction book, partly a history of tuberculosis, is planned to be released in early 2025.[1]
