John E. Bomher (born December 17, 1976) is an American musician and audio engineer based in Berwyn, Illinois. He operates Berwyn Recording, a studio and music school located just outside of Chicago, and manages the record label Dead Sage Records. Bomher founded and fronts the band Bury the Machines, and is also a member of Theyrgy, I Klatus, and EYELESS. His past projects include participation in Yakuza and Indian.

His label, Dead Sage, was established out of frustration with the "state of the music industrial complex," aiming to provide a platform for local artists with opportunities while adapting to the evolving music industry.[1]

Musical Style and Influences

[edit]

Bomher's solo endeavor, Bury the Machines, has been characterized as producing a "bleak and desolate soundscape imbued with bitter resignation and angst."[2] Critics have lauded Bomher for his "technical prowess and talent for crafting melodic, hypnotic songs rich in depth and character."[3] Influences for Bury the Machines encompass a diverse array of artists and bands, including Henry Rollins, Les Claypool, Tom Waits, Tool, Sylvia Massy, Godflesh, Mr. Bungle and Faith No More, Metallica (particularly their album "Ride the Lightning"), and The Doors.[4]

His other projects have been described as post-punk,[5] punk rock,[6] doom metal,[7] sludge metal,[8]
