Early life
[edit]Guese was born in Denver, Colorado,[1] on January 14, 1982.[2] He later moved to Boston, Massachusetts, and studied at Berklee College of Music.[3] He graduated from the school in 2002.[4] He played in local bands before joining The Click Five.[5] Gueuse played in a band called Oscar Bravo, alongside Ethan Mentzer and Ben Romans.[6] He also worked at Newbury Comics before joining the band.
Career
[edit]The Click Five: 2003–2013, 2025
[edit]Guese, along with Ben Romans met members Joey Zehr and Ethan Mentzer in Allston and moved into their Imrie house, forming The Click Five in 2003.[5] They soon recruited Eric Dill on lead vocals completing their line-up.[5] The band released their hit single, "Just the Girl" in 2005, which saw commercial success, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.[7] Speaking about the band's success, Guese stated, "Maybe if you prove yourself — have a string of successful singles — people start buying the entire record."[8] The group released their debut studio album Greetings from Imrie House on August 16, 2005.[9] They released their second studio album, Modern Minds and Pastimes on June 26, 2007.[10] The band released their third studio album, TCV in North America on May 17, 2011.[11] The group broke up in 2013.[12] In December 2024, it was announced that The Click Five would be returning and is set to perform at Playback Music Festival on May 8, 2025, with Boys Like Girls and Secondhand Serenade.[13]
In 2007, Guese contributed guitar on Frank Ciampi's Big Top Woman.[14] He also played guitar on Jesse Terry's The Runner and Nate Campany & The Serenade's The Only Bridge I Need in 2009, as well as contributing vocals on the latter.[15]
Grandon Canyon and The Walks of Life: 2014–present
[edit]In 2014, Guese formed the band Grand Canyon with Casey Shea. The band draws influences from classic 60's to 80's California style of music.[16] They released their debut studio album, Le Grand Canyon in 2018, and followed up with an EP in 2019 titled, Yesterday's News.[17]
Equipment
[edit]Guese plays a variety of Gibson guitars. He owns a 1939 J-55 Gibson acoustic guitar, which originally belonged to his grandfather.[18] He also plays a Gibson Les Paul and owns a Gibson Hummingbird and Gibson J-45.[19][20][21] Additionally, Guese plays a Fender Telecaster.[22] He plays through a Vox AC30 amplifier.[6]
Musical influences
[edit]Guese cites inspiration from Tom Petty, The Beatles, and Roy Orbison, finding their "honesty in music" as a major influence.[16] He was introduced to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band when he was eleven, which was what got him into playing music.[23]
