Jeris Johnson (born April 5, 1996)[1] is an American Eugene, Oregon[2] singer-songwriter known for his unique blend of pop, rock, and alternative music. He rose to prominence through his innovative use of social media and collaboration with various artists.

Career

[edit]

The first instrument that he played was drums and played them from a really young age.[2] In his teens he was a big metal fan and all of its subgenres, and that is why he wants to give metal a new aspect.[3] At 2009 he was in his first band called Audiophobia. In 2015 started uploading songs on his own under the name Jeris but in 2020 he deleted all his previous work and continued with his full name.[4]

Johnson talked about his influence on the internet and his desire to create rock and metal that appeals to a younger audience by making it seem more futuristic rather than stuck in the past in order bring it back to its former glory. Although he is a fan of the classic old rock he wants to change that and do the same thing on a computer, make something new but also keep the rock vibe.[5] With all the aid from technology and AI, he says that everyone can instantly create music and add a fresh perspective to trap or metal. He argues that technology can be used in a "human way" and become more creative, pointing out that several metal genres have become well-known as a result of their use of technology.[6]

In 2021, he made a remix of Papa Roach's song "Last Resort", named "Last Resort Reloaded" after teasing it to the TikTok platform, from which he gained a lot of popularity.[7][8][9] He mentions "Last Resort" as one of the songs that made him pursue music and that genre of music.[3] The same year he remixed Bring Me the Horizon's Can You Feel My Heart. After uploading a part of the remix on his TikTok account, the band's frontman, Oli Sykes, got in touch with him and decided to release the remix officially.[5][10] He also opened for Korn and Evanescence on the tour together.[11][12] While there is a popular belief that his breakthrough was when "Last Resort Reloaded" was released, he actually became known when Nickelback's Chad Kroeger remixed his song "damn!".[13] Later, he released his first EP, "My Sword".[14]

In 2022, inspired by Slayer's Raining Blood, he decided to release a track with the same name with ZillaKami in order to ''piss off old rock fans" and sampled its distinguishable guitar riff.[15]

In 2023, alongside English rock band Yonaka, they released "Detonate" for G2 Esports, a collaboration that fulfilled his dream of creating music for a game.[16] He also released his first metal track called "When The Darkness Comes" which was praised by metal fans and even comparing to earlier music from band Avenged Sevenfold.[17]

In 2024, he released his second album named "Dragonborn". He also participated in the writing process of Falling in Reverse's song with Jelly Roll, "All My Life".[18] Johnson was one of the opening acts for Kim Dracula's tour[19] and Falling In Reverse's tour.[20]
