Jarosław Maria Jan Opala (May 4, 1967 in Wyszogród (Poland)) - the Main Bishop (Primate) of the Mariavite Old Catholic Church since 2023. Bishop Ordinary of the Warsaw-Płock Diocese of the Old Catholic Mariavite Church. Chairman of the Council of the Old Catholic Mariavite Church. Parish priest of the Mariavite parish in Temple of Mercy and Charity and Mińsk Mazowiecki. Member of the Presidium of the Polish Ecumenical Council. Honorary Citizen of the City of Mińsk Mazowiecki[1].
Jarosław Maria Jan Opala was born into a traditional Mariavite family. He was raised in the Mariavite parish in Raszewo Dworskie near Płock. At the age of 16, he entered the Mariavite Seminary in Płock. He was ordained a priest on May 6, 1990 by the Main Bishop Stanisław Maria Tymoteusz Kowalski in the cathedral in Płock.
As a priest, he worked in Mariavite parishes in Piaseczno, Leszno and Błonie. In 2000, he was assigned to the Mariavite parish in Mińsk Mazowiecki. On September 5, 2023, he was elected primate of the Old Catholic Mariavite Church and bishop of the Warsaw-Płock diocese. The consecration took place on October 7, 2023 in the Temple of Mercy and Charity [2].
In 2024, he carried out an organizational reform in the Church. A new internal law was introduced and the Church Synod was restored. The Church also incorporated an independent Catholic community, the Eglise vieille-catholique romaine or Église apostolique de France, located in Normandy, France [3].
