Life

[edit]

After graduating, he was drafted into military service (where, how long, etc?). In 1945 he attended the State Drama School in Krakow and Danzig (both at the same time?). In the 1945-6 season, he became a member of the ensemble of the Polish State Theatre in Wrocław.

From 1946 to 1956 he played at the Polish State Theatre in Gdańsk. There he acted as Wurm in Kabale and Liebe, Tybald in Romeo and Juliet, Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro, Hortensio in Der Widerspenstigen Zhmung and Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night.

In 1957 he went to Austria, where he acted at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. In 1960 he moved to Vienna and worked for cellar stages there. He then played at the Theater an der Wien in the musical 'Heimweh in St. Pauli' opposite Freddy Quinn, at the Raimund Theatre in Lady Windermere's Fan, and at the Burgtheater in Caligula (by Albert Camus) and Becket or the Honor of God (by Jean Anouilh)

In 1967 Groth moved to Grünwald in Germany. In the following years, he worked in film and television, including in Nosferatu the Vampyre in 1979 as the Harbormaster. He died in 1993, aged 72, and was buried in the cemetery of Grünwald.[2]
