James J. Lawless (January 22, 1924 – June 3, 1974}[1] was a Washington judge who served as an interim Justice on the Washington Supreme Court for six months in 1956.[1]
He was "assassinated in his judicial chambers at the Franklin County Courthouse in Pasco on June 3, 1974".[1]
