[edit]Development
[edit]After the success of Jailer in mid 2023, it was reported that the makers of the film were planning on making a sequel. Prior to the release, Nelson Dilipkumar revealed intentions of making sequels to his previous films, which made reports question if this film would have a sequel.[2] In April 2024, the tentative title of the film was claimed by reports to be Hukum, a reference to a song from the album of the first song which became a hit. Production would reportedly begin in June, and filming by the end of the year, as Rajinikanth was reported to complete his commitments for Coolie (2025) by then.[3] As per reports, Nelson, who would reportedly receive ₹60 crore (US$6.9 million) for his remuneration, began writing for the script the following August. The director reportedly prioritised comic subplots between Rajinikanth and Yogi Babu at first during the writing.[4]
Pre-production
[edit]The team shot and completed for the promotion teaser by 6 December 2024 at EVP Film City in Chennai. Initially, it was planned to be released on 12 December, coinciding the occasion of Rajinikanth’s birthday, but was postponed.[5] The announcement teaser was officially released on 14 January 2025, coinciding with Pongal.[6]
