Jahan Kalantar (born 16 October 1987) is an Australian criminal lawyer, social media commentator, entrepreneur, university lecturer, keynote speaker, and author.
Kalantar is the founder and Managing Partner of Executive Law Group, a boutique Sydney-based law firm, and teaches Advocacy at The College of Law.
Following his TEDxSydney talk A perfect apology in three steps, Kalantar became a regular commentator in Australian media. In 2021, he gained international recognition on TikTok for his sharp insights and engaging humor, providing a unique perspective on current events and everyday life. His TikTok content has been featured in Netflix's Depp v Heard and Break Point.
In 2023, he launched a podcast Cross Examination with Jahan Kalantar.
His first book, a non-fiction memoir-self-help detailing life lessons he has learned from his experience as a lawyer, will be published in 2025 by PanMacmillan.
Early life and education
[edit]Kalantar was born on 16 October 1987 in Vienna, Austria, to Iranian parents who had fled the Iran-Iraq war as refugees two months earlier. His family settled in Sydney, Australia shortly after his first birthday.
He was selected to attend North Sydney Boys High School. He then studied at the University of Sydney, graduating with Bachelor of Commerce in 2008. In 2012, he graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Technology Sydney.
Legal and academic career
[edit]Kalantar passed his first attempt at the bar exam at the age of 25, making him one of the youngest Barristers admitted to the New South Wales Bar Association at the time, and completed his pupilage at Frederick Jordan Chambers.
While working as his junior counsel, he was mentored by former NSW Supreme Court Judge, Greg James.
In 2017, he founded Executive Legal and began his practice as a solicitor. He relaunched an expanded practice as Executive Law Group in 2022.
From June 2017 to February 2024, Kalantar was a course coordinator and lecturer for multiple legal subjects at Sydney City School of Law.
As of November 2023, he is an Adjunct Lecturer at The College of Law.
Personal life
[edit]Kalantar lives in Sydney, Australia, with his wife and miniature dachshund.
He volunteers his time to mental health, human rights, and domestic violence causes, and is actively involved in the global Entrepreneur's Organization community.
He speaks English, Farsi, Japanese and French.
