Jacquie Matechuk, MPA[1] is a Canadian photographer[2][3] based out of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada.
Career[edit]
Matechuk works as a photographer with an emphasis on professional and extreme sports,[4] and wildlife conservation work. In sports, she has been contracted by clients including the Calgary Flames, Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Stampede, and Winter X Games. She also works as a photo tour specialist[5] and a photographic expedition leader with Adventure Canada.[6] In 2023, Matechuk's image[7] of a spectacled bear, photographed in the Andes, earned her title of Nature Photographer of the Year.[8][9] In, 2024 as Matechuk received a gold medal win at the World Photographic Cup hosted in Dallas, Texas for her picture of the great grey owl.[10] On May 27, 2022, Matechuk was cerified as a bear viewer.[11] Her pictures have been used by the Jane Goodall Institute, Adventure Canada[6] and the Canadian Conservation Photography Collective.[12] She is also an ambassador for Canon.[13][14]
In 2024, she was named the Canadian Commercial Photographer of the Year.[15]
Personal life[edit]
Matechuk is based out of Alberta, Canada, residing on a small acreage just west of the hamlet of Cochrane. The homestead also doubles as a training compound for Monster Energy freestyle motocross riders, including her son, Cody Matechuk,[16] three times gold medalist[17] at the Aspen X Games. She is married to former Canadian Superbike Champion, Clint McBain.[18]
