The All Japan Karate Championship (全国空手道選手権大会, Zenkoku karatedō senshuken taikai) is an annual karate competition organized by the Japan Karate Association (JKA), one of the world's oldest Shotokan karate organizations. First held in 1957, it is considered to be one of the most prestigious karate competitions in the world.[1]
Also known as the Prime Minister Cup’s National Karatedo Championship Tournament, winners of the men's and women's individual kumite competitions are awarded the Prime Minister's Cup, which is the trophy for a number of national level competitions in Japan.[2]
Grand Champion is awarded to a first place finish in either kumite or kata, then a podium finish in the other.[3][4]
