- Comment: Press releases or anything emanating from IREE or those affiliated with it are primary sources and not independent. Also this needs to be severely trimmed and rewritten to summarize what WP:secondary sources say based on their own research, analysis, etc. Right now this is written as if this their website rather than an encyclopedia article. International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) is Asia's largest and the only international trade fair event in India that is focused on the rail transport industry and its related sectors. It is a three-day event, held every two years at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with the Ministry of Railways (India). On the last day of the trade fair, the public is allowed to visit the pavilions setup by various participating stakeholders with various railway equipment on display.[1][2][3][4]
Visitors and attendees from all over the globe participates and display their capabilities and requirements for Indian Railways. Indian Railways also participates in the IREE in a big way, displaying their own capabilities and future requirements. IR puts up pavilions of Production Units, Regional & Zonal Railways, Indian Railway PSUs and the National Railway Museum, showcasing the strength and future requirements of Indian Railways. This provides the best opportunity for industry to meet and interact with select senior officials from Indian Railways and its Technical and R&D segments, to understand its future requirements and modalities of becoming vendors/ suppliers to Indian Railways.
IREE provides the platform for the Indian railway sector to interact and network with stakeholders for future businesses in India, with the large number of senior officials from Indian Railways, the Metro & Light Rail Sector, the Global Business Community, and the media that are present during the three-day event under one roof.[1][2][3]
History
[edit]In 1990, Kolkata hosted the inaugural IREE, which drew 55 exhibitors from both India and beyond. The modernisation, electrification, computerisation, and upgradation of Indian Railways was the main theme of the first edition of IREE. The second edition of IREE was also held in Kolkata in 1994, to which around 100 exhibitors participated. In 1997, IREE moved to Pragati Maidan in New Delhi and has been organised there ever since. The change in venue helped IREE facilitate more international participation and a larger presence of Railway Board officials. IREE became biennial from 2003 onwards, and in 2009 it got separated from the International Engineering & Technology Fair (IETF) - a flagship event of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), held every alternate year in the month of February. Prior to 2009, IREE and IETF were held simultaneously, with IREE being a concurrent show of IETF.[2][3]
Concurrent Shows
[edit]International Rail Conference (IRC)
[edit]Coinciding with the IREE, the International Railway Conference (IRC) is organised to enhance the efforts of the Government of India in making a world-class railway system in the country. The conference facilitates high-level discussions on emerging scope and opportunities of partnership in modernisation and expansion of Indian Railway. It attracts the participation of key stakeholders from industry and government and experts of Indian Railways and global industry as speakers. IRC features discussions around new and emerging technologies, promoting domestic manufacturing ecosystems, rail infrastructure development, financing programs, and opportunities available with modern technologies through focused sessions, helps open up new avenues of learning about the latest and emerging technologies of railways to continuously enhance passenger experience, and brings stakeholders into collaborative partnerships.[1][2]
Urban Mass Transit Expo (UMTE)
[edit]A regular feature of IREE since 2013; Urban Mass Trasport Expo (UMTE) is an exhibition and conference focused on Metro and Light Rail, held concurrently with IREE, bringing the Railways and Metro sectors under one roof, making it more convenient for the stakeholders to explore new products, technologies and services available for both sectors.[5][6]
