In the Summer Rain is a 2024 American independent romantic drama film written and directed by Nathan Quick. Starring Pearl Lam and Leah Schiman, the film follows a young woman (Lam) who falls in love with the pastor's daughter (Schiman) during their last summer before college. In parallel, a self-centered television actor returns to Seattle to learn more about his late daughter.

Plot

[edit]

In the Seattle area, Kimberly is a recent high school graduate beginning to grow out of the strict Evangelical religion she was raised with. She is still reeling from the death of Helen, who was her friend and her older sister Alice's girlfriend. When Bethany, the pastor's daughter, strikes up a conversation with Kimberly one night after choir practice, their friendship grows into a romance.

Meanwhile, Helen's father, self-centered television actor Jimmy, returns to Seattle after learning of her death. Having never met Helen, Jimmy poses as her uncle to avoid facing the consequences of his past mistakes. He begins to meet some of Helen's friends and family to learn more about her, though his story never directly intersects with Kimberly's.
