I Am a Girl! is a 2010 Dutch documentary short (original title: 'Ik ben een meisje![1]'), shot on a Canon 5D about Joppe, a girl in a boy's body. Joppe always knew she should have been a girl. Her condition is called genderdysforia. I Am a Girl! is directed by award-winning director Susan Koenen[2] and broadcasted by Dutch broadcaster NCRV in December 2010. The documentary short premiered at Dutch Children's Film Festival Cinekid in 2010 and screened at nearly 85 film festivals worldwide, including World Wide Short Film Festival Toronto,[3] Canada; L.A. Film Fest[4] U.S.A.; Lunafest,[5] USA; IDFA,[6] Amsterdam; BFI London Film Festival[7] and many more. It won multiple international awards (both jury- and audience awards), including Best Documentary Short at LA Film Fest 2011; Best Documentary Short at WWSFF Toronto 2011; Education Award[8] at Picture This... Film Festival Calgary, Canada 2014; Audience Award[9] ages 12-18 at NYICFF 2012 and the Teresa Pellati Award[10] at OZU Film Festival Italy 2011. The film even got mentioned by an OSCAR-predictor[11] in July 2011.

When the film was screening at Flickerfest Australia 2012, TheVine Entertainment lighted out[12] the film.
