Howard Louis Conard was an American newspaper editor, state librarian, and author. He wrote biographical accounts and edited encyclopedias covering the Midwest.[1] He authored historical encyclopedias in the United States.

He edited the Mansfield News in Mansfield, Ohio. In 1883 he served as State Librarian of Ohio.[1]

He was published in the Magazine of Western History.[2]

Southern History Company was a publisher in St. Louis, Missouri.

William Hyde began work on the Encyclopedia of the History of Missouri before he died.
