Draft:How Do You Care for a Very Sick Bear?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the first book written by Vanessa Bayer. The book is illustrator Rosie Butcher's debut. It covers the difficult topic of severe illness in young people. The book is written for audiences of all ages, especially meant for ages 2-6.[1] It is 32 pages long.[1] The illustrations are warm and the text is simple.[2] Critics have given this book high marks.[2][3]

At age 15, the author was diagnosed with leukemia and drew on her personal experiences to show others how to support those in traumatic situations. She writes tenderly with gentle advice to reassure readers that they are still needed as a friend.[1]

This is a notable children's book as it is rare for Children's Literature to cover the topic of severely ill children.[4] It may also be helpful for children with chronically ill parents.[5]
