Hortensius was count of Auvergne from 516 to 532[1], and then from 533[2].
Life
[edit]Hortensius was a patrician and senator of Clermont from the auvergnan aristocracy, stil culturally roman[2].
In 516 he was granted the title of count of Auvergne by Theuderic I, king of the franks, that marched against Auvergne[3].
In 532 he was replaced by Sigivald after a power struggle between Theuderic and his brother, Childebert I, for the county of Auvergne. A few months later, however, Sigivald was replaced by Becco and then Hortensius was reinstated in 533[2][4].
