The Boys season 3
List of episodes

"Herogasm" is the sixth episode of the third season and twenty-second episode overall of the American superhero television series The Boys, based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis. It is set in a universe where superpowered individuals, known as Supes, are portrayed as corrupt individuals instead of the heroes the general public believes they are. The episode was written by Jessica Chou and directed by Nelson Cragg.

The episode follows the Billy Butcher and Hughie Campbell siding with Soldier Boy to kill Homelander in exchange of helping the latter to find his reamining teammates and get them killed too, much to Homelander's horror as he discovers the existance of someone that could defy him for the first time. Meanwhile, Annie January and Mother's Milk realize that Soldier Boy next targets are the TNT Twins which are hosts of an annual Supe orgy named "Herogasm", leading the two to attempt to stop him as they are aware of his deathly powers but at the cost of estranging their relations with Hughie and Butcher respectively.

"Herogasm" was released on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video on June 24, 2022. The episode recieved universal acclaim from critics and is widely considered by many to be the best episode of the series, as well as being deemed among the best TV episodes released in 2022. Critics praised the performances, character development, writing, visual effects, direction, black humor, cinematography, and action sequences, with the fight between Butcher and Soldier Boy against Homelander being considered one of the most intense and memorable fight sequences of all time in television history. For the episode, Cragg received an award for Best Directing in a Streaming Drama Series at the 3rd Astra TV Awards.

In July 2020, it was announced that the The Boys has been renewed for a thirdseason during the aftershow of the 2020 San Diego Comic-Con@Home, less than two months before the second-season premiere.[1][2] The series showrunner and head writer Eric Kripke confirmed that the season would deconstruct the United States myths by exploring Vought's history and show how the superhero phenomenon did not only altered the present but also parts from the past as well.[3][4] The season also explores the topics and themes regarding the toxic masculinity and drug addiction as the real life issues to explore, detailing how as by today they continue affecting the lives of many and was very destructive to the society and organizations.[5][6] The episode titled "Herogasm" was written by Jessica Chou and directed by Nelson Cragg.[7] The episode is titled with the name of the spin-off as well as the Vol. 5 of the comic book series of the same name.[8][9]
