Helena Koch is an Estonian writer who has published four childrens' books and published numerous stories in Estonian childrens' magazines Hea Laps and Täheke. All her books have been awarded publication support of the Estonian Cultural Endowment's literary track (Eesti Kultuurkapital).[1] Her books have been reviewed by Estonian Media outlets such as Postimees [2], Estonian Public Broadcast[3] and Sirp[4]. Both her second book Kõhu Mäss (2020)[5] and the third one, Kartuli Kuningriik (2021)[6] were chosen as one of Estonia's most beautiful books in a competition organised by the Estonian National Library, the Estonian Writers' Union and the Estonian Graphic Designers' Union.

Her third book "Kartuli ja Kuningriik" was translated and published in Finland by Kumma Kustannus ("Perunan kuningaskunta", 2022)[7] and by Liels un mazs ("Kartupeļa karaļvalsts", 2023)[8] in Latvia.

In 2018, in her function as Director of International Relations at the Estonian Children's Literature Centre, she was shortlisted for the Rights' Professional Award at the London Book Fair.[9]

Education

She was born in Põlva, Estonia in 1989. She has a BA in literature and theatre studies from the University of Tartu and a MA from Berlin Humboldt University in European Literature Studies. She has completed additional training in Freie Universität Berlin, in the University of Konstanz and attended Drakadeemia playwriting courses.[10]
