The Eternal Flame of Kayangan Api[1] is a source of eternal fire that never goes out which is located in a protected forest area in Sendangharjo Village, Ngasem District, Bojonegoro Regency, Jawa Timur. The Kayangan Api Complex is a natural geological phenomenon that occurs when natural gas is released from the earth which is ignited by fire, creating a fire that never goes out even if it rains.

[edit]The narrative claims that Mbah Kriyo Kusumo, also known as Empu Supa or Mbah Pandhe from the Majapahit Kingdom, resides in Kayangan Api. There is a sulfur-smelling puddle of mud to the west of the fire source, and according to belief at that time Mbah Kriyo Kusumo was still active in producing agricultural implements and heirlooms like cundrik, spears, keris and others. The surrounding community/folks still considers the source of fire is sacred and according to the story, the fire can only be taken during a significant ceremony, as was done in the past, such as the ceremony of Jumenengan Ngarsodalem Hamengkubuwana X and to take the fire through a prerequisite, namely selamatan/wilujengan and tayuban using eling-eling, wani-wani and gunungsari songs which are Mbah Kriyo Kusumo's favorite gending/songs. Therefore, when the gending is sung and danced by the waranggono, no one else is allowed to accompany it.
Location
[edit]To reach the location of Kayangan Api, visitors from the center of Bojonegoro City can go to the south (approximately 20 km), when you arrive at the Dander District Market, turn right and there are lots of signs to the location. It is used as a natural tourism and used as a place for important ceremonies, namely the Anniversary of Bojonegoro Regency, the mass ruwatan and Waranggono Graduation Ceremony. This tourist attraction has been improved with various facilities such as pavilions, snack places, roads connecting to the location and other facilities[2]. The location of Heaven's Fire is very good for activities as an outdoor tourism location (outbound). And on certain days, especially on Friday Pahing, many people come to this location for certain purposes, such as to run their business smoothly, find a partner, get a position and some even want to get an inheritance. The traditional community event held is Nyadran (village cleaning) as an expression of gratitude to the Almighty. The development of Kayangan Api natural tourism is directed at improving infrastructure and facilities for transportation, telecommunications and adequate accommodation.
