Hanson Sindowe (1949 – April 4, 2021) was a Zambian businessman and engineer, recognized for his significant contributions to the country's energy sector. He is best known for his leadership role at Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC), where he served as Executive Chairman and later as Non-Executive Board Chairman.[1]
Early Life and Education
Hanson Sindowe was born in Kalomo, Zambia. He was the son of a policeman and grew up in a family of farmers. He received a bursary to study engineering at the University of Zambia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Electrical Engineering and Management.[1]
Career
Sindowe began his professional career as an engineer in the Copperbelt region, where he worked for Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM). He later served as General Manager of the ZCCM Power Division, the predecessor of CEC. In 2006, he co-founded Zam-En, which acquired a majority stake in CEC, and he became the company's Executive Chairman. Under his leadership, CEC was listed on the Lusaka Securities Exchange in 2008.[1]
Personal Life
Sindowe served as the Patron of Power Dynamos Football Club until his retirement.[2]
Death
Hanson Sindowe passed away on April 4, 2021, in Lusaka, Zambia, at the age of 72.[2]
