Hampton Ridge is a walking trail, situated in the northern part of the New Forest in Hampshire. This elevated trail begins at Abbotswell and provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including heathlands, woodlands, and valleys.[1][2][3] Its suitable for cycling as well.[4]
History
[edit]Hampton Ridge was a bombing range in the 1940s. In fact, the largest bomb ever dropped on the British Isles fell just outside the south-east corner of Pitts Wood. Now, it’s an area of remote heath where rare birds nest and ponies graze undisturbed.[5][6]
Importance
[edit]offers an unforgettable walking experience, blending natural beauty, history, and wildlife. Its diverse scenery makes it a favorite among hikers and nature lovers.[7] Heathlands like those on Hampton Ridge are globally rare and vital for supporting specialized flora and fauna, making them a focus for preservation efforts.[8]
