Government Joybangla College, Khulna is a higher secondary level educational institution in Bangladesh, located in the divisional headquarters of Khulna. Former name Khulna Government College.[1]

History of Establishment

Established as an educational institution for business education, this institution was established in 1968 and is the only government-run institution in the greater Khulna region. Later, the name of the college was changed from Khulna Govt College to Govt Joybangla College, Khulna through a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on 16 September 2019. According to the directives of the National Education Commission in 1959, the then government in the 16 district headquarters of East Pakistan 'Gov. "Commercial Institute" was decided to be set up and consequently with the financial and technical support of USAID, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Chittagong, Feni, Comilla, Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Bogra, Pabna. These commercial institutes were established between 1965 and 1967 in the district towns of Barisal and Sylhet. [2]

Educational Activities

This institution is run under the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Jessore. As only the 11th-12th standard education programs are in operation, the students' studies are disrupted. Science, humanities and business education are three group-based classes held regularly. GPA 4.00 is the admission qualification in this college. Admission eligibility is determined on the basis of SSC exam results. Apart from giving lessons, activities such as co-education, competition, BNCC, science club etc. are running.

In order to expand technical and business education in the heart of Khulna city in the past 1968 AD. The institute started as Khulna Govt Commercial Institute. 12.05.2016 AD. By issuing a notification of the Ministry of Education dated , the college was converted into a general college. Then the college was named as “Khulna Govt College, Khulna”. After that the teaching program started in higher secondary class in science, humanities and business education branches. As there are several educational institutes near Khulna city called "Khulna Govt. College", various complications arise in maintaining proper communication with the Student Admission, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education , Jashore and changing the name of the college becomes inevitable. In this context, the then principal Professor Dr. Molla Amir Hossain took the initiative to have a unique name. In the meeting of the teachers' council of the college, the proposal to name it as "Government Joybangla College, Khulna" by adding the slogan of the great liberation war "Joybangla" was unanimously accepted. Honorable Mayor of Khulna City Corporation, Mr. Talukder Abdul Khaleque realized the importance of the matter and agreed with it. Later, in the light of his recommendation, the Ministry of Education named the institution as "Govt. Joybangla College, Khulna" on 18.12.2019 AD. Issue notification. [3]
