Global League (commonly abbreviated as G-League) is an annual futsal competition organized by the OSIS (student council) of Global Prestasi's Senior High (GPSHS). First held in 2023, the event has become a significant part of the school’s activities, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and community spirit. The tournament is usually held in January or February and marks the beginning of the school’s second semester.
The competition is divided into two stages: the group stage and the G-League FINALS, which use a knockout format. It features separate categories for boys and girls. The boys' competition includes six teams, while the girls' competition has three teams. In both categories, teams compete to win the championship title.
Organized entirely by students, G-League has become a key tradition at Global Prestasi's Senior High. It not only highlights the players’ skills but also demonstrates the organizing abilities of the student council.
History
[edit]The G-League was first introduced as a program by Jovee Wildon during his campaign for OSIS president in the 2022–2023 period. He envisioned it as a large futsal competition to unite students and showcase their talents in sports. After his election, the program was officially added under Sekbid 7 (Sports and Health Division) and became one of the key focuses of OSIS.
The first G-League was held in 2023 under the leadership of Aysar and Rakkhita as the PICs, with Alniko, the head of Sekbid 7, supervising the event. The tournament was met with great enthusiasm and quickly became a popular annual event at Global Prestasi. It provided a platform for students to demonstrate their skills while fostering school spirit and camaraderie.
In 2024, the second G-League was organized by Rafael and Nayla as the PICs, with Rakkhita stepping into the role of head of Sekbid 7. Under their leadership, the event introduced new features, including a girls’ category, a new tournament format, and a rebranding of the logo, further solidifying its position as one of the main programs of OSIS.
Over the years, the G-League has evolved into a flagship program, celebrated for its competitive matches, smooth organization, and involvement of the entire school community. It remains a key event that reflects the school’s dedication to sportsmanship, teamwork, and student engagement.
Format
[edit]Since G-League 2024, the competition format is divided into two main stages: the group stage and the knockout stage, known as the G-League FINALS. The tournament features a total of six teams in the boys' category and three teams in the girls' category. Each batch is allowed to form up to two boys’ teams and one girls’ team, ensuring broad participation.
Group Stage
[edit]In the group stage, the boys’ competition is divided into two groups, each consisting of three teams, while the girls’ competition has a single group of three teams. During this stage, all teams play against each other once, following a points system commonly used in football. Teams earn points based on match results, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the G-League FINALS.
G-League FINALS
[edit]The G-League FINALS feature four teams in the boys' category and two teams in the girls' category. In the boys’ semifinals, the first-placed teams from each group face the second-placed teams from the opposite group. The winners of these matches proceed to the final. In the girls’ competition, the top two teams from the group stage advance directly to the final.
The champions are determined in the final match of each category, with the winning teams earning the title of G-League champions.
Previous Format
[edit]In its inaugural edition in 2023, the G-League followed a league format, where all participating teams competed in a round-robin system. Each team played against every other team, and points were awarded based on match outcomes. At the end of the competition, the team with the highest points was declared the champion. The league format was replaced in 2024 to introduce a more engaging structure with group stages and finals.
