The German Rowing Federation, or Deutscher Ruderverband (DRV), is the governing body of rowing in Germany. The DRV oversees club, college, and Olympic rowing, and is a member of World Rowing (FISA). The DRV is a democratic organization with a "Rudertag" (voting body), that decides upon rules, regulations, and allocation of funds. The presiding chairman, as of 2024, is Moritz Petri.[1]
History
[edit]The Deutscher Ruderverband was established on 18 March 1883 in Cologne and is the oldest German Sports Federation[2]. 34 clubs attended, and there was a total membership of 1116. In 1912 the DRV joined FISA, this move aligned the German amateur regulations with the rest of the world. In 1936 the DRV was temporarily dissolved and incorporated into the Reichsbund, it would be separated again in 1949. During the Cold War, the DRV exclusively operated in West Germany, with its sister organization the DSRV operating in East Germany. The DSRV was incorporated back into the DRV in 1990.[3] Germany has the most gold medals of any other country at 64 total[4]
