The UN General Assembly launched the Youth Delegates program in 1981, encouraging member states to include youth representatives in their official delegations. This initiative is outlined in several UN resolutions.

In Georgia, the program began in 2012, with implementation led at different times by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Up until 2021, the program was funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2021 onward, the "Youth Agency" has overseen the program in partnership with the UN Office in Georgia.[1][2]

Those selected as youth representatives of Georgia to the UN hold consultations and meetings with young people across the country. Later, the youth representative travels to the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, where, as a full member of Georgia’s delegation, they participate in the activities of the Third Committee of the General Assembly and its hearings. They also give speeches at these sessions and contribute to drafting resolutions related to youth. The representative may also attend the meetings of the Commission for Social Development of the Economic and Social Council.
