Geeker.co is a startup that offers online, US-based, on-demand software and IT support from vetted technicians through its peer-to-peer, screen sharing platform. It was originally founded in 2021 before it publicly launched in December of 2023. The company continues to serve customers in November 2024.

History

[edit]

Geeker.co was founded in 2021 by its CEO, Jacob Eisenbach.[1] According to Eisenbach, the concept for Geeker.co was conceived after he’d spent time struggling with technology as his real estate business grew[2]—a problem he believed other professionals in many industries were also facing.[3]

As a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Lexington Property Group (a real estate firm East Orange, NJ that owns and operates over 2,700 properties across 8 cities[4])—Eisenbach used his income to privately fund Geeker.co in an effort to help solve this problem.[5]

In 2023, the company officially launched to the public, offering its services to both business and individual users.[6] However, the company has stated that about 83% of its users are businesses, especially smaller shops.[7]

Products and Services

[edit]

Geeker.co offers online on-demand support for software tools ranging from suites of products like Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google and Quickbooks[3] to Salesforce, PowerBI, technology consulting, automations, among others.[8]

These services include one-on-one online consultations that use Geeker.co’s built-in screen sharing software as well as an option for customers to give control of their device to their technician so they can fix issues remotely. According to NJ Biz[7], jobs can be requested 24 hours per day, but the primary workforce of 100–150 technicians Geeker is available from 9am to 5pm EST.

Business Model and Impact

[edit]

Geeker.co is a peer-to-peer platform. Much like Uber, it connects consumers who need a service with vetted operators who can fulfill their needs using a smart browser application with features like screen sharing, remote access, scheduling, and automatic time tracking and billing.[7]

92% of office workers utilize technology in their roles[9], but only 2.9% of employees are proficient in IT-related fields[10]. This disparity of knowledge and access to help causes an estimated loss of 7.3 work hours per month due to tech-related problems.[11] Although no official studies have been published regarding the impact of Geeker.co on the businesses it works with, it aims to minimize time wastage and frustration that software and tech problems can create.[7]

On the technician side of the business, Geeker technicians have been reported to make up to $80–$90 per hour and $3,000 per month working an hour per day.[12]

Technician Vetting

[edit]

Before being accepted into the Geeker.co workforce, technicians must go through multiple stages of vetting and training. This includes an initial application, a technical skills assessment, a background check, an online interview over Zoom, and individual onboarding training.[7]
