Draft:Gangsta journalism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gangsta journalism is an experimental style of journalism created in 2022 by Darian O'Neil, a journalism and film alumnus of the University of South Carolina. O'Neil took heavy inspiration from Hunter S. Thompson's Gonzo journalism school of thought when coming up with the idea. The origins of gangsta journalism stem from O'Neil's growing frustration and boredom with the traditional journalism curriculum that was being taught at the university during his senior year. Combining his passion for the arts and journalism together, O'Neil invented a new fast-paced, first-person narrative style of journalism that incorporates theater, hip-hop, literature, film, and performance art. Gangsta journalism centers its author as the protagonist and encourages unorthodox approaches such as controversy, absurdism, and surrealist humor when reporting.
