Gambrinous is an independent Irish video game development studio based in Dublin, Ireland. The studio is best known for its games Guild of Dungeoneering and Cardpocalypse. It was founded in 2014 by Colm Larkin.
History
[edit]Gambrinous was founded in 2014 by Colm Larkin. The studio's name is derived from the mythical figure Gambrinus, who is associated with beer and revelry, reflecting the playful nature of the studio's games.
Guild of Dungeoneering (2015)
[edit]On July 14, 2015, Gambrinous released their debut title, Guild of Dungeoneering. The game features a unique mechanic where players build the dungeon using cards while adventurers explore it. The game received praise for its innovative design and hand-drawn art style. It was published by Versus Evil.
In 2021, the studio released an expanded edition titled Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition, which included additional quests, monsters, and gameplay improvements.
Cardpocalypse (2019)
[edit]On September 10, 2019, Gambrinous released Cardpocalypse, a role-playing game that incorporates deck-building mechanics. Set in the 1990s, the game follows a young girl navigating a collectible card game. It was praised for its nostalgic setting and engaging narrative. The game was also published by Versus Evil and made available on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
