GAY45 is a European queer magazine, published in English, featuring journalism, commentary, criticism, essays, fiction, and poetry. Alongside the magazine, is produced a podcast, “GenClash: Queer Perspectives on Current Affairs”, a newsletter called “THE9”, and they organise the European Queer Journalism Campus. The main stations are in Vienna, Berlin and London. It presents itself in an editorial manner of The New Yorker.

HISTORY

The founder of GAY45 is Răzvan Ion, a professor of critical thinking and a queer tech activist.

In 1993 any queer magazine needs it to tag itself with Gay (Gay Krant, Gai Pied, Gay Globe, Gay News, etc.) to make clear the target of the publication and the community to identify easily with the media outlets working for the LGBT+.

We loved and we love vinyl disc music for the authenticity of the sound. 45 is 45 rpm – the speed a vinyl is rotated. So… GAY45.

The original name and magazine GAY45 was, probably, the first gay magazine printed and distributed in East Europe. It was published in 1993. Our platform tries to restore and improve the fabulous ideas of GAY45 almost 30 years later in a larger global context.

GAY45.eu was established with the aim of providing a platform for queer voices and creative expression. The magazine quickly gained recognition for its unique approach, combining traditional journalism with modern technology, including the use of AI. This innovative approach has helped GAY45.eu attract a diverse readership from around the world.
