GANCUBE (formerly Gans Puzzle) is a Chinese speedcube manufacturer headquartered in Guangzhou, China. It was founded in 2014 by Jiang Ganyuan, who is the holder of the first official Chinese 3x3 speedcubing record. They manufacture a range of different twisty puzzles, which include 3x3s, 2x2s, and pyramixes. The brand has gained notoriety for their products being used to break several world records over the years.[1] They have sponsored famous speedcubers such as Feliks Zemdegs and Max Park.[2] In addition, they are known for being the pioneers of UV coating and smart cubes.
History
[edit]GANCUBE was founded by Jiang Ganyuan in 2014, under the original name of Gans Puzzle. Jiang was the first official Chinese national record holder after winning a competition in 2008.[2]
In 2014, GANCUBE released the GAN357, which marked the beginning of several years of using a three-digit numbering scheme for the names of their puzzles. At that time, it was popular for people to modify the puzzle by putting cotton balls inside as a way of making it quieter. However, in later years GANCUBE would release quieter cubes.[3]
The next year in 2015, GANCUBE would go on to release the GAN356, which was the first release under the 356 series, which would grow to be widely popular. It introduced screws in each piece. It became well-known among the cubing community as it had very good corner cutting compared with other cubes one the market at the time. Its release was shortly followed by the release of the GAN356S, its successor, which Feliks Zemdegs used to break the average of 5 world record at the time.
