Tord Gösta Fredrik Edström, born 15 July 1901 in Frösö, Jämtland, died 6 August 2000 in Växjö[1], was a Swedish Business man, forester and founder of Södra Skogsägarna. He grew up on Frösön and came to Växjö as a newly graduated forester in 1929 to work in the newly formed Kronoberg forest coperative owners' association. In 1938, he was the driving force in merging five southern Swedish forest owners' associations into the Sydöstra Sveriges Skogsägareförenings Förbund, which was the beginning of what eventually became Södra Skogsägarna. He was then for thirty years the CEO of the rapidly growing company, which after further association mergers in 1964 became Södra Sveriges Skogsägares Förbund, shortened to Södra Skogsägaras in 1976, or simply Södra in everyday speech. Year 1968, Edström left the executive management to become chairman, a position he held until 1973.
During Gösta Edström's time in Södra's management, the company grew into one of the major forest industry companies in Sweden with pulp mills, sawmills and other wood industries[1][2].
