Florida Militia

Florida State Militia was established

The militia, state troops, and Florida National Guard served in several conflicts.[1]

Second Seminole War veteran William Iredell Turner was one of its commanders during the American Civil War.[2] Jim McMullen was Captain of the "Clearwater Guards".[3]

In 1914 Florida passed a constitutional amendment granting its governor the power to appoint officers of the state militia.[4]


Florida governor Ron Desantis signed a bull establishing the Florida State Guard.[5]
