Florian Fox is a rising Swiss country artist. Regularly referred to by the media as the “Swiss Johnny Cash” for his baritone vocals and traditional country taste, Fox has quickly captured the attention of international audiences and press, embarked on several international tours, and released several projects to international acclaim. He is considered one of the most successful European country artists of his time due to awards and nominations from several international organizations, including the Texas International Country Music Awards and Prix Walo, among others.
Early Life
[edit]Born and raised near Zurich, Fox’s father worked as an architect and urban design expert and would lecture throughout the sixties in the United States. He was also involved in the Neighborhood Renewal Plan for the city of Nashville, TN. He would provide Fox with his favorite Johnny Cash records, while his mother would buy him his first acoustic guitar, setting the spark of inspiration for Fox’s career. At the age of 15, Fox watched the film Walk The Line, about the life of Johnny Cash. "And that's when the music completely grabbed me. I knew that I wanted to dedicate my career to country music.”[1]
Fox, at the age of 15, would form The Black Barons, Switzerland’s youngest country-rockabilly outfit. He would go on to win a Swiss newcomer award, and the band's 2013 debut album, Rolling Skies, would be named one of the best Swiss albums of the year by national radio station SRF 3. The band would go on to open for legendary country acts such as The Bellamy Brothers, Lorrie Morgan, Johnny Reid, and more.
Career
[edit]In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fox moved to Nashville, TN. In October of that same year, Fox won “Outstanding Live Production” at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards in Jefferson, TX.
In January 2022, Florian Fox released 'Swiss Guy’ as a single, which quickly became a full-scale success with its accompanying music video, in which Fox humorously re-enacts experiences of his early days as a Swiss guy in Nashville, achieving over 30,000 views within days. In February, Fox appeared on the U.S. Outlaw Country Music Cruise alongside country star Chuck Mead (formerly of BR5-49). The line-up of the Outlaw Cruise included legends such as Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Carlene Carter, and Mead himself. Fox’s debut album, produced by Mead, Made in U.S.A., would then be released in June 2022. The album was released in streaming, CD, and vinyl formats.
Following the release of Made in U.S.A., Fox would embark on his first U.S. tour throughout Louisiana and Tennessee. The tour would see Fox play in legendary honky-tonks such as Nashville’s Robert’s Western World and American Legion Post 82. Fox would then return to Switzerland for several sold-out shows throughout the country.
In 2023, Fox released Made In Nashville. The EP featured former Johnny Cash bassist Dave Roe, Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie McCoy, and Grand Ole Opry music director Kerry Marx. Fox would tour in support of the record throughout 2023 in both the United States and Switzerland and featured several sold-out shows and appearances at some of the most prestigious country music festivals in the U.S. and Europe. Fox would also make his first appearance on the main stage of Country Night Gstaad alongside superstar Miranda Lambert and other top acts. He would also headline the first Country Music on the River cruise on the Danube.
On February 24, 2024, Florian Fox released his first live album, Live At Country Night Gstaad. Shortly after, he was nominated for the renowned Swiss cultural award, Prix Walo. [2] In October, Fox would be recognized as the Texas Sounds International Country Music Entertainer of the Year and would be presented with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition by the United States Congress. He would also perform at Nashville’s iconic CMA Theater with his musical partner Will Wesley as part of the Josie Music Awards Pre-Party.
Florian Fox is a member of the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Americana Music Association. His new EP is scheduled to come out on February 21, 2025.
