Floods In Ghana
[edit]Floods in Ghana (1930 - Present) is a list of flood incidents that has destroyed properties and led to loss of lives. Floods are caused by excessive rainfall and Dam Spillages..[1]
Over the years Ghana has experiienced floods accross different regions. For instance on June 3rd 2015, Circle was flooded as a result of continuous heavy rainfall.[2]The main causes of this flood was choked gutters that have blocked all drainage systems, improper settlements in Accra, the capital of Ghana[3]. Over 200 people lost their lives due to a petrol station explosion during the flood[4]. In the Kumasi Metropolis, 4 people lost their lives while 200 people were displaced. This flood was caused by heavy rainfall[5]. Again heavy Floods was experience In the Kumasi Metropolis in 2021, where 4 people lost their lives while 200 people were displaced. This flood was caused by heavy rainfall[5]. In the Eastern Region of Ghana, severe flood triggered after the Akosombo Dam was spilled displacing 26,000 from their homes. Reports from BBC, the flood was caused by heavy rainfall in 2023 causing the Volta River Authority to spill the dam. Below is a list of floods.
