Fiona Gilmore FRSA
Fiona Gilmore FRSA was educated at New Hall, Cambridge, now Murray Edwards College. She went on to undertake a 30-year career specialising in brand positioning, communications strategy, corporate identity, innovation, and internal communications for companies, countries, cities, and regions.
During the 1980s, Fiona served as a member of the Milk Marketing Board and contributed to the development of GCSE Modern Languages as part of the working party for curriculum reform.
Alongside her professional pursuits, she dedicated significant time to charitable work, serving as a Trustee for various NGOs from 1980 to 2016. Her contributions included roles with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), WaterAid, the United Learning Trust, and CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education). She also co-founded and directed the Vote No Borders campaign during the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum and is an Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple Inns of Court.
Fiona’s consultancy career included advising global corporations such as Vodafone, Unilever, and Lloyd’s. She became Managing Director at Michael Peters and Partners before co-founding the brand and design consultancy Springpoint. Under her leadership, Springpoint expanded into an international consultancy with offices in three countries and was later acquired by IPG in 2001. After leaving Springpoint in 2003, she established Acanchi (2003-2016), where she worked in socio-economic development and positioning.
Between 2006 and 2016, Fiona advised governments, public and private sector organisations, and NGOs across Asia, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. Her focus during this time included innovations in alternative fuels.
Focus on the Green Energy Transition
Since 2019, Fiona has worked on advancing "a modern, more efficient spatial energy strategy for Britain". Her efforts are focused on promoting an offshore meshed grid that integrates offshore wind energy with onshore infrastructure located at pre-industrialised brownfield sites close to demand.
She has presented extensively to the UK Government, Members of Parliament, and National Grid, advocating for a model based on the advanced planning systems of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark. In particular, she draws on the approaches of TenneT and Elia.
