Filip Jeff Planinšek (born 29 June 2001) is a Slovenian professional tennis player. He played college tennis for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and won the men's singles title at the 2024 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
Early life
[edit]Filip Jeff Planinšek was born in Spodnje Hoče to Urban and Tjaša Planinšek.[1] His sister, Annika, also plays tennis.[2] In his youth, he trained at TK Terme Ptuj.[3]
College career
[edit]In November 2020, he committed to play collegiate tennis for the Alabama Crimson Tide.[1] In May 2024, he won the men's singles title at the 2024 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. It was first singles title in Alabama's history.[4]
Professional career
[edit]Planinšek made his professional debut in March 2021 at the $15k Istarska Rivijera in Poreč. In July 2022, he reached the semifinals of the $15k event in Velenje as a wildcard.[5]
In July 2024, he reached the quarterfinals of the $15k event in Litija.[6] The following week, he made his Challenger debut at the Dutch Open, where he reached the second round.[7]
