Filimon Peonidis (Greek: Φιλήμων Παιονίδης) is a Greek academic philosopher.[1]
Biography
[edit]He was born in 1961 in London England from Greek parents and was raised in Thessaloniki.[1] He studied philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the London School of Economics and Political Science. He holds a doctorate in moral philosophy from the University of Crete. He joined the School of Philosophy and Education, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1998 and since 2015 he has been serving as Professor of Moral and Political Philosophy. He had research and teaching appointments at various universities in London, Toronto, Vancouver, Melbourne, Antwerp, Hamburg,[2][3] Berlin and Athens.
Research interests
[edit]His research interests center on political and moral philosophy. He has published on utilitarianism,[4] the morality of lying, autonomy,[5] applied ethics and freedom of expression viewed as a prominent political and moral value.[6] More recently, he started studying theoretical and institutional aspects of popular sovereignty.[7] In this context he has published a series of systematic and historical works on democratic governance.[8] He has also translated into Greek works of Jeremy Bentham, John Stuart Mill, John Rawls, Ronald Dworkin, Charles Taylor, Brand Blanshard, Douglas Walton and others.[9]
