[edit]Development
[edit]On April 28, 2020, STX Entertainment acquired Jon and Erich Hoeber's script Fast and Loose with David Leitch, Kelly McCormick, and Annie Marter producing through 87North Productions.[1] On February 5, 2021, it was announced Leitch would also direct and that Will Smith was set to star, and would also produce alongside James Lassiter and Jone Mone through their Westbrook Studios production company.[2] After a bidding war, it was announced on July 27 that the project had been acquired by Netflix.[3] On April 2, 2024, it was reported that Netflix was pausing development on the film as a result of the Chris Rock-Will Smith slapping incident at the 96th Academy Awards; Variety also reported that Leitch had stepped down from the project a week prior to the incident, choosing to direct The Fall Guy instead, and that Netflix had begun searching for a new director when the decision was made to pause development.[4]
On October 7, 2024, it was announced that Michael Bay had been hired to direct the film, with Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson now contributing to the screenplay.[5]
