Facundo Nazareno Saxe (January 22, 1981) is an Argentinian literature professor and researcher.
Career[edit]
Saxe was born in Puerto Madryn, Chubut, Argentina. He obtained his degree at the National University of La Plata in 2009, and went on to become a Doctor of Letters in 2014. Since then he is a researcher at the CInIG (Interdisciplinary Center of Gender Studies) within CONICET and teaches German literature at the same university. His fields of research include German literature, comparative literature, queer theory and comics studies.[1]
Attacks by the far right[edit]
The rise of the far right in Argentina since 2019 led to an attack on state-funded science. CONICET researchers were accused of being "ñoquis"[a] in traditional and social media and there were calls for the defunding or outright closure of the institution.[2] Within this context, Saxe was chosen by prominent personalities such as vicepresident Villarruel and journalist Eduardo Feinmann[3] as a prime example of the "uselessness" of all state-funded science. Some of his works were cherry-picked for their provocative titles to spark outrage in society, most notably one which mentioned "anal comics".[4] This was taken literally to claim that all Argentinian scientists do is "waste their time researching Batman's anus". Saxe receives ongoing harrassment amounting to death threats as a consequence.[5]
