The European Magnetism Association (EMA) is a non-profit professional organization of scientists specialized in magnetism. Founded in 2016, EMA is a scientific society registered as a French association in Mulhouse, France. EMA aims to advance the development of magnetism and magnetic materials in Europe. By increasing the visibility and impact of research in both fundamental and applied magnetism, EMA serves as an umbrella organization, representing and supporting magnetism-related activities. It provides a unified voice for the magnetism community within the broader field of physical sciences.
Core activities
[edit]Conferences and Educational Programs
[edit]- Joint European Magnetic Symposia (JEMS):
The flagship European conference in magnetism, covering topics such as fundamental research, practical applications, and innovations in magnetic materials.
- European School on Magnetism (ESM):
An annual educational event dedicated to doctoral-level training and fostering connections between young scientists and industry professionals.
Community Engagement
[edit]- Online Seminars:
These events enhance the visibility of EMA members, facilitate the sharing of research findings, and promote sustainability by reducing travel.
- Monthly Newsletter:
A vital resource featuring event updates, job opportunities, and research highlights to keep the community informed and connected.
Community Connections
[edit]EMA facilitates connections with allied societies [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6], strengthening interdisciplinary connections and broadening the impact of magnetism research.
History
[edit]The roots of EMA lie in two cornerstone events: the Joint European Magnetic Symposia (JEMS) and the European School on Magnetism (ESM). Since 2010, these events have become increasingly interconnected, leading to the establishment of EMA during JEMS2016. EMA now provides a formal structure to support and expand these collaborative efforts.
Structure
[edit]The European Magnetism Association is governed by an Executive Board and a General Council.
Executive board
[edit]The Executive Board (EB) consists of the President, the Vice President, the Treasurer, and Officers each dedicated to a specific task. The EB makes operational decisions for EMA on a daily basis and reports to the General Council.
General council
[edit]The General Council (GC) is led by the President. It defines the general policy developed by the EMA. It oversees that the actions developed by the EMA and conducted by the Executive Board, such as ESM and JEMS, respect the Statutes of the Association.
The GC consists of representatives of the European countries[7] active in magnetism research (one representative per country)[8]. Representatives are elected country by country by the existing GC, based on at most three nominees per country.
