Ettore Fieramosca or The Challenge of Barletta was a Ballet written by the Italian composer, Giacomo Panizza. it was first performed at La Scala on the 10th of October, 1837. It is based on the popular novel by the Marchese d'Azeglio, Ettore Fieramosca. The Ballet in total recievied 47 performances but the only music from it that is still played today is the Ballabile con Variazioni from act III. The solo was written for Ernesto Cavallini who was the principal clarinet at La Scala.
