Etere (Company)

[edit]

Etere (www.etere.com) is an Italian software developer and manufacturer that was founded in Tolentino, Italy, in 1987 by Fabio Gattari.[1]

History

[edit]

The company was previously known as SIS (Societa Italiana Software). [2] In 1989, the Etere software was developed for private broadcasting. In 1990, SIS launched software to manage transmission logs and it became popular in the market.

A collaboration in 1991 with Italian company Audiologic led to the introduction of a radio automation system based on computers that allowed SIS to manage a majority of the radio stations in Italy.

In 1992, SIS developed Etere software as an end-to-end product to connect all aspects of broadcast operations and to streamline workflows in a global management system.

Over the next 2 years, the Etere software was selected by a few national broadcasting companies and several small and medium-sized businesses, including international television companies.   In 1993, SIS launched a professional system to manage audio signals based on personal computers. The system is fully integrated with administrative software and network services. SIS was selected as the system provider for the Italian State Television Station, RAI. By December 1993, the software had been adopted by broadcasting companies and businesses, including television companies.

By 1997, SIS launched its first Microsoft Windows release, and in the same year, SIS's Windows traffic management reached 200 stations.

In 1998, SIS shifted its full focus to software development, and by April 1999, SIS decided to split into two different companies, Etere would remain in SIS and the new SIS Nord Italia would receive the whole public notaries software business. The following year, SIS was renamed Etere and it moved its database to the Microsoft SQL2000 platform to leverage its high speed, data security, and interchangeability.

By 2012, Etere was expanding rapidly in Asia, and it set up a headquarters, Singycon in Singapore in 2012. Fabio Gattari, director of Etere, moved to Singapore while the company continued to manage its support services from its office in Tolentino, Italy.

Singycon registered the ‘Etere’ name as a trademark. The new company was registered in Singapore as Etere Pte. Ltd.

In 2017, Etere celebrated its 30th year in the business. Besides its headquarters in Singapore and a support center in Italy, Etere opened its Dubai office in 2022 [3] and Etere LLC in 2023 to expand into the East Asia market.

[edit]

Technology

[edit]

In its early days, Etere focused on radio automation software systems. As the company expanded, it moved its focus to creating software for the television broadcasting sector. Etere products are mainly only software based, with the intention of operating without the need for hardware.[5] Etere developed the Media Enterprise Resource Planning (MERP) framework, now referred to as the Etere Ecosystem, which manages the end-to-end broadcasting workflow with modular software solutions including Media Asset Management, Newsroom, Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM), Automation, Censorship, Airsales and Broadcast Management System (BMS), Ad Insertion, Closed Captions and Subtitle-Insertion and Etere works with a number of partners including Apple,[6] Adobe,[7] and Bluefish444.[8]
