Draft:Enver Tohti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enver Tohti Bughda (1962-) is an oncology surgeon and Chinese exile living in the United Kingdom, where he was granted asylum. He left China after growing discontented with the Communist Party's policies, and has helped expose the CCP regime's practices of organ harvesting, which he said he personally participated in on one occasion in 1994 when he was taken to an execution site and ordered to remove the liver and kidneys of a man who had apparently been part of a group of prisoners executed by firing squad, but who he said was still alive during the operation.[1]

Tohti also helped bring to light the high incidence of cancer in East Turkestan (Xinjiang), which he attributes to the Chinese Communist Party regime's nuclear testing in the region.[2]

Activism

[edit]

Tohti said he became aware of the existence of a state organ harvesting program in China after relocating to the UK, and realizing that he might have been part of it, he decided to speak out.[3]

In 2022, Dr. Tohti was among witnesses who provided written testimony to a United States congressional committee headed by Rep. Tom Lantos, on Chinese organ harvesting.[4]

Personal life

[edit]

After coming to the United Kingdom, Dr. Tohti remarried, and has two children. He has been working as an Uber driver.[5]

Non-profit role

[edit]

A Christian who converted from Islam, Dr. Tohti is CEO of the World Uyghur Christian Union[6]
