Enhanced Layered Interface

[edit]

The term "Enhanced Layered Interface" (ELI) refers to a solution aimed at balancing security and usability in the management of WordPress sites. Developed by Elihost.com, this interface allows users to manually adjust Linux permissions through a control panel. This adjustment makes permissions more lax during maintenance tasks such as content updates, plugin installations, and core updates. Once these tasks are concluded, the interface allows restrictive permissions to be reinstated to maintain strict security. Key features include dynamic permission management, transparent user control, and manual security restorations, ensuring that security measures are re-established after necessary actions are completed.[1]

Elihost appears to be the first hosting provider to implement a system allowing users to manually adjust Linux permissions via a control panel switch, offering a balance between security and usability. While it is not certain that Elihost is the only provider offering this feature, no records of other hosting services implementing a similar solution have been found.
